The fate of Maria Valtorta’s work, not being recognized as divinely inspired,
is on par with that of all other similar texts,
including the apocryphal Gospels.
The only ones that the Church recognises as divinely inspired are the Canonical Gospels.
If one day, after the examination of her virtues, Maria Valtorta were to be beatified or canonised,
this would not change the Church’s stance on private revelations.
In fact, the new norms of the Catholic Church, dated May 17, 2024 (“To proceed with the discernment of alleged supernatural phenomena”), reaffirm:
“Neither the diocesan bishop, nor the episcopal conferences, nor the Dicastery, as a rule, will declare these phenomena to be of supernatural origin,
even if a Nihil obstat is granted.”
However, the Holy Father may authorise the initiation of a procedure regarding this matter.
